At this point we’ve:
Taken stock of our current situations with our Snapshots: Day 1.
Dreamed crazy-big, amazing dreams about what we want to accomplish with our year: Day 2.
Taken stats, measurements, and photos of our starting points: Day 3.
Today, it’s time to talk about the elephant in the room: your WHY.
Any time someone embarks on a journey to improve themselves or change their current situation, there has to be an impetus: something that makes them want to change. Habits are easy to maintain. The status quo is the status quo because it’s comfortable. But for you to really want to do something different and be someone different, there has to be a reason: a why.
WHY are you here? WHY are you doing this? You may say, “to lose weight,” or “to be healthier,” but that’s fluffy. Really dial down on WHY you want to do those things.
Let me give you some examples:
Some of our members are here because they want to live long enough to raise their babies, but obesity-related illnesses are challenging that.
Others are here because they’re tired of being tired all the time. They’ve sat on the sidelines feeling like crap for long enough, and they want to actually get to DO life instead of WATCHING life.
Some are here because they don’t feel like the confident, awesome person they are because of the way they look or move.
There are no right or wrong whys, but I will tell you that some may be internal and others may be external…and that’s okay. Consider how your old lifestyle affected people you loved.
Did you tell your friends “no” to social events more often than you should because you were embarrassed or didn’t feel good?
Did your kids eat poorly because you were making crappy food choices for yourself and they suffered because of it?
Knowing that other people are counting on you to be healthy and awesome is a great motivator when it’s hard to find the stick-to-it-ness within yourself.
But here’s the double-edged sword: this is going to get uncomfortable enough that pleasing other people won’t carry you to the finish line.
So, as your considering why you want to be that person you dreamed you were on Day 2, consider factors both within and outside yourself.
How will these changes benefit YOU?
And how will you being healthier, happier, more active, and hopefully living longer affect the people you love?
I want you to explore both sides of the coin because you’ll need all the motivation you can get as you go through this journey.
Your challenge is to find your why. Really give it some thought.
Take the time necessary to think about it, write about it, or talk it out with someone.
By the end of the week, I want you to KNOW that you KNOW why in the world you’re doing this.
Jeremy and I can help you with the WHAT and the HOW. That’s kinda in our wheelhouse. You’re on your own with this part.
Once you lock in on your WHY, the rest is just about follow through.
Take some time. Do some work. Let us know what you find.
All the best,
