Getting Started: My Fitness Pal Setup
MyFitnessPal (MFP) is a great tool to help you track what you’re eating, so that’s what ProjectU uses. There are other apps that work similarly and you’re welcome to use those, but this here’s how to get set up with MFP before you begin your challenge.
From phone app:
Go to More in bottom, right-hand corner.
Choose Goals.
Under Nutritional Goals, Choose Calorie & Macronutrient Goals.
Set Calories first (you may have to tweak this). Starting off, women use 1800 and men use 2300
Then choose Carbs. It will bring up percentages for carbs, fats, and proteins. It also offers you the option to upgrade to premium to set exact grams. This isn’t necessary. You’ll just set them for as close as you can get it to your goals and then hit your goals, not what MFP dictates.
For women starting out, use 20% carbs (90g), 35% protein (158g), and 45% fat (90g), but remember, your actual goals are 75-100 carbs, 150 protein, 75-95 fat.
For men starting out, use 25% cars (144g), 35% protein (201g), and 40% fat (102g), but remember, your actual goals are 150 carbs, 200 protein, and 100 fat.
[…] Step 3: Download MyFitnessPal (you can join on a computer or tablet/phone…some aspects are easier to manipulate on a computer, but you’ll need it on your phone for quick logging throughout the day). Detailed directions for setting up MFP macros: http://mymacrotools.com/mfpsetup/ […]
