Up to now we have:

Taken stats, measurements, and photos of our starting points: Day 3.
Gotten honest with ourselves about our why: Day 4.
Learned about the “magic bullets” to weight loss success: Day 5.
Day 5: The Basics
Today we get to talk shop about nutrition basics.
One thing we all know how to do is eat.
And I mean, some of us can EAT!
But do you know WHAT you’re eating?
Do you understand what your body DOES with what you eat?
Do you know how to tweak what you eat to get different RESULTS? (and I’m not just talking about eating less…do you know how to keep your volume up but change your choices?)
The truth of the matter is what most of us just don’t. And that’s okay. I was in the same spot before I started hanging out with Jeremy Mullins, our in-house Registered Dietitian.
I’d wager a bet that the last time someone talked to you about nutrition (not “diet” or “weight loss” or “crap you should buy so you’re not fat anymore”), it was 10th grade Health class, your metabolism was BANGIN’, and you were more interested in the attractive co-ed sitting beside you than the macronutrients your teacher was droning on about.
(I’m right, aren’t I?)
Well, now we’re all older.
Our bodies have changed.
Our habits have changed.
Our weight has (likely) changed.
Our activity levels have changed.
It’s probably time that we paid attention to some nutrition basics so that we are educated and empowered to make choices that will help us get to our goals. For most of us, ignoring or being ignorant about our food choices isn’t serving us very well anymore. We’re heavy. We feel sluggish, swollen, and blah. But where do you go for information? Is your Health teacher still available? 😉
The “Diet” Landscape is Noisy
For many of us, the only people telling us about weight loss are all weirdos with magic bullets and expensive agendas. They want to sell us things to take care of their families and there’s nothing wrong with that, but do they really have OUR best interests or THEIR monthly quotas in mind when they tell us about this new shake, that great cleanse, or those expensive pills? Or maybe we’ve found someone who lives in the gym, drinks nothing but protein shakes, and looks shredded on their Instagram profile. Will their habits and choices really work in our lives?
If only you could talk to someone who is TRAINED in nutrition.
Someone with credentials and a license.
Someone with no agenda and no spin.
Someone who will just break down the science into human terms and explain things so you feel smarter, not talked down to.
Our RD, Jeremy
Well, friend, let me introduce you to my right hand man Jeremy Mullins, RD. (as in Registered Dietitian…as in, he went to school for this and didn’t get his nutrition advice from Google or WebMD…as in tests and licensure…as in the real deal) 😉
He’s going to break down the basics of WHAT you’re eating.
Everything we take into our bodies is measured by calories, but the composition of those calories REALLY matters.
100 calories of sugar will do different things inside your body than 100 calories of meat.
100 calories of vegetables cause different reactions than 100 calories of candy.
(This is why counting calories doesn’t give you all the information you need to make healthy choices, but that’s a conversation for a different day.)
The way we identify the different sources of calories is by looking at the macronutrients they come from.
Listen in as Jeremy explains macronutrients:
Crazy, right?! How did we all make it to this age without even knowing what the heck we’re eating or that it mattered?!
Well, this is just the tip of the iceberg of what Jeremy will be sharing with you as we go throughout our challenge courses over the next few weeks. Prepare to have your mind blown and horizons expanded. If you haven’t jumped into our classes yet, what are you waiting for? Learn more about them here:
For now, take in the info in this video, share it with a friend, and check your nutrition labels today.
Start to look BELOW the calorie line to the Carbs, Fats, and Proteins in the foods you’re eating.
We’ll be sharing LOTS more about this topic (I mean, we’re called MacroEd, short for Macronutrient Education for crying out loud, so we’re DEFINITELY going to be talking about this more).
See you tomorrow!
All the best,
